C&O Hike Bike

Great Bike/Hike on the canal

The weather really held out for us. The 29/6 miles that we covered were a bit rough at times due to the mud however we are glad that everyone had a great time. Despite some logistical (driving, shuttling) challenged the troop persevered. We are pleased that the Scouts were prepared for the cold and wind at the camp. Some Scouts need to remember to stake down their tents to prevent them from blowing away. The new troop and patrol leadership did a fine job (although some patrols could have done a better job provisioning their meals). David F. did a fabulous job as the MC for the campfire with the Eagles winning the campfire skit competition. I think I recall that the SPL announced that the Bears Patrol won the cooking competition with their “Mini-Burgers” menu.

Cooking Competition

Every year BSA Troop 55 holds its Annual cooking competition. Each patrol is responsible for planning, purchasing and cooking a meal for the patrol and there family.

There are some simple rules:

  • $100.00 budget fore each patrol
  • You can only uses the equipment in the Chuck box. Since the boys are cooking for an abnormally large number of people we allow them to bring duplicates of whats in the chuck box
  • If you forgot to bring it your out of luck, just like on a camp out
  • Noting precooked or prepared
  • Cooking starts at 12:00 and must be served at 4:30
Competition judging is conducted by highly qualified judges who have had years of training and experience. This year the Judges include our former Scout Master, 2 Troop 55 Eagle Scouts and committee member. The PLC was responsible for defining judging criteria.

This year the troop invited all the raising Weeblos to participate in a mini cooking competition and bake Cinnamon rolls. These soon to be new Troop 55 scouts had got the opportunity to meeting the older scouts and see what it is like to be a Boy Scout in Troop 55.

Everyone has a great time. Congratulations to the Eagles this year winners

Scouting for Food

Scouting for Food is an annual food collection orchestrated by Scouts of the National Capital Area Council. Area Scouts distribute plastic bags to homes across the region and return to pick up the bags, now filled with food, one week later. Collected food is distributed to needy families throughout the communities of the Council.

We collected over 3,000 pounds of food. Great job

Big Guns at Bull Run

This was a great trip to Laurel caverns. It was the firsts from our new scouts but they survived they 17 degree weather. AS 3 hour Caving hike was the high adventure activity for the older scouts.
